Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are the answers to some of the frequently asked questions about WebVisitor.info.

If you have a question and cannot find the answer in the help documentation please contact us at Support@WebVisitor.info and we will do our best to help you.

How do I track visitors to my website?

Once you have created an account with WebVisitor.info you will be asked to setup your first website to track. After you have setup details, such as its Name, url, Time-Zone etc you will be given a snippet of HTML code. You should place this code on every page of your website you wish to track.

More information about this can be found in the Tracking Code Installation Guide.

Can I track more than one website per account?

Yes, there is no limit on the number of websites you can track under one account using WebVisitor.info and to help managing them easier you can split them up into Groups as well. Each website comes with a free 100 log allocation, and you can assign more log space as you see fit with the Website Log Manager.

Can I create another user login to allow them to see a tracked websites statistics?

Yes, you can create as many logins as you want. There are various user levels which offer different levels of functionality allowing you to restrict your user’s possible actions. You can also specify which websites each account can view the statistics for, so for example you may want to allow a customer to login and view only their websites statistics.

More information can be found in the User Account Types help document.

Do we place anything other than the stuff needed to track visitors on your website?

No! Some web tracking services actually place Spyware cookies on your website via their tracking code that allows external companies to track your visitors. These companies are paid lots of money to do this, but we think it is highly unethical and will never allow the WebVisitor.info tracking code to be riddled with Spyware.

Can re-brand the Stat-Viewer with my Companies Logo?

Yes you can, and so much more as well, see next FAQ….

I build websites for a living and would like to re-brand the WebVisitor.info Stat-Viewer with my logo and links, so I can provide an extranet for my customers. Can I do this?

Yes and this is one of the unique things about WebVisitor.info which we are very proud of. If you have subscribed to any of our monthly plans you can customise the WebVisitor.info Stat-Viewer in anyway you wish. This includes the ability to disable all site advertising, replace the WebVisitor.info logo, top banner and footer, and even override the Styles and place your own JavaScript in the html header block. If you combine this with the various user account types, especially the “Customer” User Account Type, that allows you to create logins and restrict access which website statistics can be seen by that account, we hope WebVisitor.info provides you with all the tools you need to keep your customers happy. This is not available to customers who have the free account as this is supported by advertising, so of course if we allow the free accounts to remove our header and so hide our advertising banner we wouldn’t get very far with that particular business model!

More information, including how-to’s and examples can be see in the Customising help document.

Can I disable the advertising that appears on the site?

Yes, if you have a paid account not only can you re-brand the stat-viewer, but also you can simply check a box and all in-site advertising will disappear. This is provided so that if you build websites for other people, for example you are a web-design company, you can offer this to your customers without looking like your pedalling cheap (and possibly nasty!) software solutions to them.

More information, including how-to’s and examples can be see in the Customising help document.

I run a membership based website; can I pass the name of the members once they have logged in to WebVisitor.info so I can identify them by name or ID in reports?

Yes you can. In the tracking code there is a JavaScript variable called m_UserIdent. If you set this to the name of your visitor using either server side or client side script their name will appear in reports such as the Session and Page Requests report.

More information about this can be found in the Tracking Code Installation Guide.

I run a website with an online shop; can I pass the name of the shopper and when visitors make a purchase I give them a username or id. Can I pass this to WebVisitor.info so I can identify them by name or ID in reports?

Yes you can. In the tracking code there is a JavaScript variable called m_UserIdent. If you set this to the name of your visitor using either server side or client side script their name will appear in reports such as the Session and Page Requests report.

More information about this can be found in the Tracking Code Installation Guide.
