Website Statistics Report: Visitors by Day of the Week
Overview
This report breaks down the traffic analysis to each website you are tracking by day of the week. Use this to see how visitor patterns change during the course of the week. For example on average is the traffic up, down or broadly the same over the weekend? Do you have a particular day when your site is most busy?
When used with the Visitors by Hour of the Day
report you can build up an accurate picture of the days and times of those days your website is most busy.
You can use this information to plan the usual activities associated with running a website, online advertising, maintenance, content updates and so on. For example if Monday is your busiest day you may only want to run online advertisements on Monday as this is when it appears the internet population is most interested in the subject matter of your website. Of course the opposite maybe true and you may want to run advertising on slow days to keep your website visitor numbers up. The choice, as they say, is yours. Additionally if it becomes necessary to force a short period of downtime for your website, for server maintenance for example, you can use this report to identify the best day of the week to do this and then use
Hour of the Day website statistics report to determin the time of day.
There are two versions of this report that are basically identical except the means the measure traffic. The first measures by the number of Page Requests (hits) in a day and the second measures by number of Sessions in the day. The Page Request version is the default, but you can access the Session version by clicking on the “View by Sessions per day” link just above the data table, as can be see in the example below.

How this Report Works with the Log
Log size is very important to this report as each log record represents the data for one session. If your log is full you will be losing the oldest record with each new visitor so increase the log size to store more data and analyse trends further back in time.
