Website Statistics Report: Operating System

Overview

This report shows the percentage and numerical breakdown of the Operating Systems your website visitors use. Apart from allowing you to keep a track of Microsoft’s continued dominance of the Computer Operating System market it is useful to see if your site has an unusually high or low usage of other Operating Systems. For example even on moderately busy websites a total lack of Apple or Unix machines is rare and it may be worthwhile making sure that your website runs well on this small but important segment of the web population.

Of course you should test your website using as wide and varied selection platforms as possible, including mobile devices such as smart-phones and PDA’s.

Additionally it is worth testing your website against different screen resolutions, see the Screen Resolution report and a variety of the popular web-browsers, see Browsers report.

Shown below is an example of the Operating System report showing the breakdown of the Operating Systems that visitors to a WebVisitor.info tracked website use:

How this Report Works with the Log

Log size is very important to this report as each log record represents the data for one session. If your log is full you will be losing the oldest record with each new visitor so increase the log size to store more data and analyse trends further back in time.
