Website Statistics Report: Search Engine Keywords

Overview

This report shows what percentage of web searches come from each of the major internet search engines. This report is useful to determine how well any keyword optimisations are performing with each of the respective internet search engines and how each of your websites are doing overall in each. One caveat to this though is that currently Google has such as large portion of the online search market that it is extremely rare for any other search engine other than Google to provide the majority of your search traffic. However this is an interesting report none the less and allows you to track the progress of Google's competitors as well as how your keyword optimisations are performing.

Additionally, if used in conjunction with the Keywords and Referrers reports the Search Engines report allows you to build up a detailed picture of where visitors to your websites are coming from. This is useful when deciding what methods for increasing your website traffic to use.

Web-Visitor.info currently tracks all searches from the following major internet search engines:

If you want us to add a particular search engine to this list let us know via the “Contact Support” option from your Account. Alternatively if you do not have this option contact the company who is supplying you with this service and they can pass on your request to us. We always do our best to accommodate your requests as it helps improve the service for everyone.

Report Options

As with most reports you can choose the date range that this report runs. There is also a printer friendly version which is available by clicking the icon in the top right of the report.

How this Report Works with the Log

Log size is very important to this report as each log record represents the data for one session. If your log is full you will be losing the oldest record with each new visitor so increase the log size to store more data and analyse trends further back in time.

To understand how to get best use of this report read Managing Website Session Log help document.

Optimising your site for this Report

The referring search engine is only available on the first page the visitor views from the website and because of the nature of the Internet the first page visitors come to could be any page within your website, therefore to get the most out of this report it is essential that you make sure you have installed the tracking code on every page of your website.

Other than that, by ensuring that your log is as big as possible you won’t lose any data once your log becomes full.
